Post: Should I Keep Teaching???? Your Opinions......
Posted by: at a crossroads on 6/27/09
Here's my story....
I've been teaching for 8 years. I have had great and
wonderful classes for 6 out of the 8 years. Most others
that I have talked to say that it is normal to get a few
challenging or difficult classes from time to time. This
is not the problem.
I enjoy planning lessons and actually teaching the kids. I
think that we can go a little standards crazy but this is
not the problem either.
The problem is surviving the school environment. I can't
seem to spend more than a year or two in a school before
I've had it. The treatment of teachers is something that I
just can't seem to tolerate. If it is not an extremely
controlling/nasty principal it's a rotten group of verbally
abusive coaches running the school. I have worked outside
of teaching before and other job environments are nothing
like this.
Another problem is..no matter how hard I try...I am just
not a "yes man". Administrators tend to like that yes
man...grin and bare it... everything is super type of
teacher...which is definitely not me..(especially if
everything is really not super)
I just don't seem to fit in as a teacher. I wish that I
could just stay at a school the way other teachers seem to
be able to.
Is this an indication that teaching is not for me...or have
I just not found the right school...or do other teachers
find my problems to be an issue also?
