I have never personally taught on FLVS. However, I know several
teachers who have. They say that the student load is much higher (
around 250 students per teacher ) and you have to be available from 8
am to 8 pm. w You have to respond very promptly to any student or
parent concerns, or you will be "flagged" and questioned for not doing
so. This will effect your evaluation. You are an annual contract
teacher forever with FLVS, so don't ever expect to get tenure. This
means they can let you go for "any reason" and do not have to follow
"due process" to let you go, you are simply "let go" at the end of
your annual contract. If I had a newborn and i wanted to stay home
with my newborn, I might consider it...just to avoid the high costs of
newborn child care. But, when your children are older, you will have
to ignore them at night while you make all of your calls to students
and parents, as this is the time that most will be available. You can
google how actual teachers from FLVS feel about their job...there are
LOTS of reviews of teaching for FLVS out there!
