I've passed the GKT and the K-6 and applied for my temporary certificate. I've submitted applications to every school in the county (Lake) I'm willing to drive to, and now I'm just waiting. I currently work in the social services field and, believe it or not, the salary will be an increase for me (however, the benefits will be poor in comparison). I've read the posts, have many friends who are teachers, and I've heard all the horror stories...I'm still going to do it. That said, respectfully, I'm more interested in posts that that answer the following question than those telling me I'm crazy and to head for the hills!

Question: What are the chances I'll actually get a job teaching 2 - 5 (don't want K or 1) with no teaching experience?

anon Everybody warns you against this "career," yet you stubbornly persist in wanting to teach. Do you naively think the abuse wouldn't happen to you? BTW, all of the protections are gone in Florida for teachers (and are being done away with in other states--not that teachers had any protections anyway). PB Not only what you all have stated, but in this country, everyone wants something for nothing. There is no "value added" in this good old USA. Everything is about price/cost. Without education, we are nothing. We do not value education in this country nor are we willing to pay for it. The writing is on the wall.
