Re: Breaking a school contract

Hi,
I am sorry to hear your are facing health issues after
teaching for such a short time. I would use a medical leave
to vacate my position. I am sure a doctor would confirm your
status. Then, I would work a leave or notice and move on.
The consequences on breaking contract vary; the system
can "black ball" you and keep you from getting a job in
Georgia by giving you poor verbal recommendations. Honestly,
administrators will let you out of a contract if they can
replace you immediately. Nobody wants somebody working for
them who does not want to be there. I asked out of a
contract in the summer about a month before school started
and had no problem leaving in good standing. Be tactful and
you will get what you want. By the way, every teaching job
has its stressful side. How badly do you want to teach?
Best wishes on your decisions.
