I lived on Maui in the late 70's and 80's and grew up being sent back and forth to the mainland. I was on Oahu in 1980 and suffered one of the worst racial discrimination because I was white. I grew up as an adult in the islands and experienced less prejudice as an adult but did suffer from local asian women who concentrated their focus on platinum blond islanders. I eventually had many friends but it took growing up there to fit in. I experienced severe racial harassment when I was 13 to 17 in school. I attended Lahaina Luna High School on Maui. I was a morman at the time which helped because the morman girls would protect me.. in a lot of situations. It stinks and whites go through it too.
