Re: sending my "haole" children to Hawaii's schools
Posted by nicole on 6/23/04

It's not that bad. My mother taught at McKinley high school for
years and loved it. There are areas which haole kids are better
off avoiding. I went to both public and private schools in HI
and never had any problems. I have dark hair and eyes. My fair
hair sister had some minor problems, but nothing big. I would
agree with staying away from Waianae. Haoles are always the
minority in HI, but generally that's not an issue. kaimuki,
kahala, aina haina and hawaii kai are much more friendly to
haoles. Haoles At the same time those areas are much more
expensive. I would have no hesitation about moving back out to
hawaii. You should keep in mind however that it is very
different from the mainland, the pace is different and it is an
entirely different culture. I love it out there and go back
every chance I get. So of the best people I've ever met live
    out there. Good Luck.
