Re: sending my "haole" children to Hawaii's schools
Posted by aaronbowen on 7/20/05

"What really worries me, though, is the prospect
of sending my two little, innocent "haole" children to
school where they may be hated, teased because of their
color (my daughter is so white she's practically blue!)"

I went to a elementary school in southern california that was
mostly mexican. I grew up in a neighborhood that was mostly
mexican.Refered to as the "BARRIO". Here i am refered to
as "GRINGO" AND "WHITE BOY".Thats fine with me because thats
what I am. There is no changing that. I have also come to
accept that the mexican culture refers to white people that
way and living amongst the mexican culture what else could I
expect. I am planning to move to Oahu (wherever section I
feel like moving to) after Christmas. I fully expect and look
foward to being refered to as "HAOLE" because thats what the
Hawaiian culture calls foriegners and thats what I am. Bottom
line. As far as violence goes, just like here in So. Cal, if
you show respect, keep your mouth shut, and don't act like a
bad ass, I should be alright. See ya'll when I get there.
    Peace.
