Aloha Clara,
Real basics:
All island have varing weather, cooler, wetter, dryer, hotter, etc.
- Oahu is the Big City and most expensive for housing, however lower for food
costs,
- Maui is overcrowded and now has Reg. gas at $4.00 gallon, highest in state,
- Kauai - more rural, has been hit with a couple of hurricanes over past 15
years,
- Big Island - largest island, rural, has a live active volcano and earthquakes,
plus snow on mountains.
We've been here since 1984, camped and hung out on all islands, and decided
the Big Island was where we wanted to live. "It just felt different".
I've been teaching at a Kona side high school since 2000.
Don't want to say much else, because my comments could be taken as wrong
way, other than the majority of schools are really old and the state's list of
repairs never gets any shorter.
Go to visitor websites for Hawaii, and the state government site for Hawaii and
get a feel for everything.
Good luck
