Re: Moving to HI - I have questions for those living there

We are a very diverse state. I don't think you will have a
problem here.
I am mixed ethnicity (Caucasian/Chinese/Hawaiian), like many
others in Hawaii. You will also find Japanese, Hawaiian,
Filipino, Vietnamese, so on and so on. As with any place,
you will have those who have issues with everyone else.
That is basically THEIR problem.
There are many other caucasians ("haoles") here, many that
have adopted Hawaii as their home. If you have an open
heart and do not dwell on what someone else's perception is,
you will be fine. I think it is those people who are so
overly fixated on stereotypes and who do not try to adapt to
the local culture that have problems and challenges.
By the way, if you make it to UH, one of the first things
you should do is learn what a "plate lunch" is! There is a
plate lunch wagon that sells across the street from Sinclair
library. Just ask any local...they'll point you in the
right direction!
Good luck!!
