I lived in Moscow, Idaho, from 1971-1984. We had a daughter,
adopted a daughter (who happens to be black), had a son, and
after we moved there, adopted a son from Korea. You can find
racism anywhere or you can "blossom where you are planted."
My recommendation is to live in a town with a university,
which tends towards more liberal thought and attitudes. The
University of Idaho in Moscow is very important to the
economy and climate of Moscow and I think you'd find living
there a positive experience. It was a great place to raise
    children.
