Re: ELL/ESL endorsement

In order to get the ESL endorsment or approval in IL, a teacher
has to take 18 hours of classes and be able to prove they have had
100 hours worth of experience in working with English Language
Learners. For someone who is already a teacher and has ELL's in
their class, that counts for the 100 hours - an administrator
would just need to verify it in a letter. For those who don't
have a classroom, you can use tutoring or other programs like the
one poster mentioned. I don't know anything about the type of
program that person mentioned though. Some type of supervisor
would need to verify that experience. Sorry. You could check with
your ROE to see if they are aware of any opportunities.
I just got my approval in December and I took my classes through
NIU and my 100 hours were completed while I taught in a 4th grade
regular ed classroom.
