I try not to identify my district or school on this website because I
want the freedom to be honest. I'm the special education dept head at
a middle school in a mid-sized Dupage County district. We pay well,
but some districts pay better. Thats as close as I'll get to
identifying myself or district.
I don't have anything to do with hiring regular ed math teachers.
However, as I've mentioned in posts on here, the Math Dept. Head at my
school has issues finding qualified people just like we do in the
special education dept. He complains that out of 3 open jobs, he only
has 6 qualified applicants, and of course some of those applicants will
take other jobs at other districts, and some will just be plain weird,
so it makes it hard to hire quality people. I don't know what the
status is on the math openings we had. I've just gotten back from
vacation and don't plan on going back to school for several weeks
unless one of my sped teachers up and quits on us.
I do know that we frequenly have math (and sped) openings up until the
first day of school. I hope, for our sakes, thats not the case this
year, but who knows? Your daughter SHOULD already have her application
into us, as well as all the nearby districts if DuPage County is in her
area. She should update her application now, even if the districts
don't have openings, so we know she's still on the market if we have
last minute need. An application that was completed/updated in May,
lets say, will get passed over for something completed recently because
we want to spend our limited time talking to people who are still looking.
