The Initial Certificate can be renewed as many times as
necessary until 4 years of teaching have been acquired. You
should be able to log on to ECS on the ISBE website and renew
the certificate for another 4 years.
Of course, you shouldn't keep it for another 4 years. Once you
complete your 4th year you will need to apply for the Standard
Certificate. The Initial Certificate becomes invalid after 4
years of teaching have been acquired no matter when the
expiration date is.
It's a good idea to renew the certificate, then early in your
4th year of teaching begin the process of applying for your
Standard Certificate. All of this can be done on ECS. You'll
need the Statement of Assurance, PD/CEU Hours, etc.
Hope that helps!
