Similar situations have happened to me. You feel betrayed,
confused, and rejected! It's just a management technique.
I have had this happen twice--once, a wonderful letter of
rec. was given without resignation; the second time, no
letter of rec. would be given if I did not resign. In both
cases, I did NOT resign. I was able to apply and receive
state unemployment compensation (Illinois) and COBRA Health
Ins. coverage (paying my own premium for the group rate).
Neither of these would have been available to me if I had
resigned. Not having the letter, did not make a difference.
Don't be afraid to file. Some districts will challenge you.
Don't drop out of the process!!! Sometimes it is resolved
immediately; sometimes the district challenges the
unemployment claim for months. Don't give up! YOU will win!
In closing, Another admin. was happy to write me a great
letter that I am proud to use. Good luck!!!
