Post: Re: Art Praxis General Content Knowledge

Posted by Karen on 4/27/08

    Hi all!

I just wanted to thank all of you that have taken the time
to help others that are preparing for the General Content
Knowledge test. I too took the test Sat. (4/26, in NJ)
I'm 50 and have been out of school for 20 years. The info
that is given here is invaluable! I was clueless as to
where and how I was going to start studying for this
thing. The info here gave me the ground work to start. I
studied/researched for a month and I can say ALOT of the
info here was on the test! I had the test that
    included "The Sleeping Gypsy"

I think I did well! Walked out with a smile on my face.
Maybe beacuse it was over! Went home and took a nap! LOL
I'll let you know when I get my results.

One thing I would recommend is study the major movements
and the style it represents. Study the influential artist
of that period. Don't give yourself a headache like I did.
The test is geared twords process of elimination. For
example, art techniques; ceramics, printing, weaving or
    engraving? The test gives you a term. Architecture;
Rococ, Renaissance, Greek or Roman? How do styles of
certain periods influence other types of art, ie.,
pottery, printing, photography, etc.? If you can relate a
movement with the question you have it made.

I was able to get through the test in an hour because of
the info here. I circled the questions I wasn't sure
about so I could spend the next hour taking the time to
study the question and redirecting my thoughts. I did
erase alot! Not sure that was a good thing but I felt
better about my answer. The questions are tricky so read
closely and understand what they are asking before you
    answer.

Good Luck to all, and best wishes to those that are
    awaiting their results!

    Karen
