Re: Resigning late in the summer
Posted by Lynette Shoemaker on 8/01/08

I think you should just resign and not sweat it. It seems
to me that most job opportunities are at the last second
from what I've seen over the years. They can always get a
substitute if they can't find anyone. Odds are that they
will fill it within a week or two.
Personally, my first job was 1/2 days and started in
October. Then I have worked full time for years and now
(Aug. 1st) am applying for a position closer to my home that
starts Aug. 11 (10 days away and I haven't interviewed yet,
let alone begun curriculum planning at an all new grade
level if I would happen to get the job). My point is that
if I get that job, my current job will be open and the new
person will go through what I'm going through (scrambling at
the last minute). I think a teacher with experience--at
least in our corporation--is used to that. I don't think
you'll be able to work at your old job to fill in to give
them time (unless for some reason it's just extremely
difficult to find candidates). In this economy, they'll
probably have extra candidates vying for the position within
days of posting it. If not, they'll probably fill it
internally with a person the principal favors and then have
them get a temporary license. (This happens all the time at
    our school.)
