$$$$$ has a lot to do with it. Our corporation is really top heavy with
experienced and high on the pay scale teachers nearing retirement. Instead
of retiring early as had planned, many have stayed on due to the economy.
The ones who took the package incentives took those years ago. All the
recent hires have been those with little experience and do not have their
master's yet. They can hire two of those for the price of the ones still
on the payroll. Age doesn't have as much to do with it. My granddaughter's
k teacher is probably in her mid to late thirties and has only been there
two years. She taught preschool before then. I agree that having contacts
(politics) has a lot to do with a hire, but what job currently isn't in
any field? It's not what you know, but who you know. That is the name of
the game.
