I think there are a couple of reasons why hiring has slowed down.
In my central IN school five teachers left & were not replaced
because our corp. does not have the money. So there goes 5 jobs
for prospective applicants. Also, a lot of older teachers who
might have retired are staying in the classroom another year or
two to hang on to the insurance, etc. So that means fewer
openings also.

That being said, I have gotten jobs within a couple of days of
school starting. Once I even was hired for one grade level, but
they changed me on the first day to another grade level. So,
keep your options open & do not give up--even after school
starts. Good luck!
