Re: TEACHER RIGHTS IN TEXAS![]()
Posted by 8th Grade Teacher on 1/18/07
Wow! That is quite interesting. The first year at my current
school we had a free lunch period every other week, now we
have duty every day. We are given 18 minutes to eat but are
required to be in the cafeteria with the students. We then
have 18 minutes of duty in which we supervise the students.
We split the lunch time and have a 1st shift, 2nd shift
approach. Regardless, it is tough, especially considering
that if we have to heat up our lunch, it comes out of our 18
minutes.
All that being said, I don't see how we can do it any other
way. Our cafeteria is not large enough to fit more than one
grade at a time so there are no extra teachers available to
cover duty and there is no way we can leave 300 8th graders
unsupervised or even minimally supervised.
Can some of you from Texas share how the schools managed to
meet these requirements? I know that our principal would be
open to suggestions.
