Posted by My principal knew she would have a maternity leave to fill on 6/28/08

. . . so she asked people from job fair to contact her if they
weren't offered a job. We only had a special ed pre-k position, 1/2
time gifted position to share with another school 1/2 time, as well
as the same situation splitting half time for a special ed mild
moderate, and technology position. We had a lot of sabbaticals last
year, so my principal was not able to hire back all the people that
    filled the sabbatical positions.

She has heard from a couple of people that they didn't get hired at
job fair and want to be considered for the 8 week maternity leave.

I would definately contact principals when they get back at school.
I would think that would help to make an impression, plus you never
know when a position pops up at the last minute.

For example our Resource Helping Teacher passed away this month. Her
job still hasn't been posted. But when it is, it will probably be
filled in house, which means another teaching position will be
available. I'll be honest, with so many not hired back from
sabbaticals, she will propbably choose one of them. That's why it is
important to sub if you can or take an extended leave like a
maternity leave. It can help you get your foot in the door.

I agree with a previous poster that this parish likes to hire within
Louisiana. My principal did hire someone from Mississippi 5 years
ago, but that person was looking to move to LA if she got a job.

I'm sorry you're frustrated. I know getting hired in the parish
isn't easy. Good luck making contact with principals, and maybe a
last minute opening will turn up. I did see on stpsb home page that
they moved a few people up to the assistant principal's pool. That
should leave a few job openings, but I don't recall what grades they
were teaching. Some of them may have been RHTs which may be filled
in house or out of house. But if in house then that would create a
    teaching job.
