Run for the hills!! Oh, there will be plenty of available
positions...I was offered four. I am a 17 year veteran
teacher, and after 3 months of trying to teach in the RSD, I
was ready to quit. I have experience with low income
students, who live in dangerous areas with gang infiltration,
but nothing could have prepared me for the worst 3 months of
my life. Having lived here for only 2 years now, I, too,
wanted to "save" these poor kids, who lack for so much. It
was great in theory, but I cried every day. I was lucky
enough to get a job in Jefferson Parish, and now my life is
wonderful. I adore my high school, and have never had even
one disipline problem. Every day spent here is a total joy. I
strongly urge you to look at other possibilities. Our whole
city needs good teachers, but you do not have to work for "
combat pay". Hope this helps!!!
