Clearly at the bottom? How is it so clear?

By the way, I think you meant mediocrity (being average and not outstanding) not
meritocracy (a system of a government).

I have a young PhD student at my job. She is almost finished with her PhD but has
never worked in her field! She has no real life experience, yet, her program requires
that she not work full-time and has to teach undergrads. She admits that all her
knowledge is textbook, that is what I call being bad for your career - almost 30 years
    old and no work experience.

At one point in time people thought the TV and the telephone would never catch on.
    We know how that went.
