Re: Walden University

    Hi Fred,
    No apologies necessary. (o:

I spent quite a deal of time on the phone with the folks at Walden as
well. (In fact, even when I decided I would not pursue the program I
continue to get phone calls and emails from them trying to 'recruit' me.
I think they have a department just for this.) The Walden folks did say
they are regionally acredited (north central U.S.), but they were not able
to tell me if the program would be accepted in MA. The said to contact
the MA DOE. I did, and you know how that turned out. (o:

When speaking to the DOE, yes - I agree, one would assume they have a list
of approved programs which lead to professional licensure. If one exists,
the two different people I spoke with don't know of one. There is a list
of approved educator prep programs on the DOE website, however not a list
of approved masters programs leading to prof. licensure. I was told there
are so many programs out there they do it on a case by case basis, that's
why I'd need to apply. Again, I didn't want to put things off another 12
weeks applying for a license that I know I won't qualify for for three
years. I really wanted to get started this semester.

To be honest, even though I did not go through the process with the DOE,
at this point I'm very doubtful that Walden's programs of study would be
accepted towards Prof. Licensure. I'm guessing they would likely be
acceptable for PDPs, but I'm doubtful that they're accepted for prof. lic.
status. I get this impression from the way Walden was not able to answer
my question directly and kept refering me to the MA DOE, and from the
response of the folks at the DOE. But until I spent the $ and time
applying, I was not going to get a definite answer one way or the other.
The fact that so many folks read this board as well, and not one person
has responsed that he/she has attended Walden and had his/her degree count
towards Prof. Lic. status makes me think I've make the right decision as
    well.
