The REA book is fine for content as far as it goes but is much
too elementary for high school math. Compare the content to what
is on the DOE practice exam and you will see what I mean. The
XAM book is a bit better but is difficult to follow for those
who have been out of school for a while and is littered with
errors from what I've heard.
Full disclosure: I am a Mathematics Tutor who tutors for the
Middle School and High School Math MTEL both privately (one-on-
one) and as an instructor for a local College. I've had alot of
experience with both the multiple choice portion and the open
response questions and I can tell you that interpreting the
questions and time management are often the most difficult
parts. Content of course is important but there is more to it
than that.
