In our town the building substitute was a certified
teacher. Her pay was the same as an 'on call' certified
substitute ($75/day) and there were no benefits. The only
difference is she was guaranteed work every day, whereas
an 'on call' sub was not. If no one needed a sub (which was
rare) then she'd help out in the office, or be another set
of hands for anyone who needed her. Because of budget cuts
in town, there are no longer building substitutes.
