    I think it is great that your father wants to bring his content
    knowledge and maturity to the classroom. If he does not have
    very recent experience in the schools where he'd like to teach
    he may want to volunteer as a tutor or mentor. Then he might
    consider substitute teaching. (I know the job market is tight
    even for subs but ability to control classroom behavior is
    absolutely necessary to any teaching career. If he can do so as
    a sub then he will probably be fine in his own classroom.)
