In growing numbers, colleges are refusing to accept AP credit
because the students, even with 4s and 5s on the test, do not
have the basic skills that they need to function in advance
classes in the field in which they took the test. Giving AP
teachers a bonus for passing the test simply encourages more
people to teach the test-taking skills rather than essential
academic or conceptual skills in the discipline in which they
are taking the AP test.
I would be in support of a more comprehensive program to
identify high-performing and low-performing teachers and
rewarding the former and mentoring or possibly removing the
latter.
