No state will accept the scores if you do not already have an
initial license. Some states will waive their test requirements
if you have passed an equivalent test and have a
non-provisional license. Other states require that you have
taught for a specific period of time before you can waive the
testing requirement. Alaska may eventually accept MTEL scores,
but they have not set a passing score for MTEL as of yet.
I would check the various state requires to see if you can
waive the testing requirements with certification. A good site
for accessing all of the certification rules is

For states around MA, VT and NY explicitly state they do not
accept MTEL scores. For VT, you must take Praxis and in NY
there are NY-specific tests.
