I will be moving to Maine in the fall, and I am looking
for a high school teaching job in southern Maine. I will
have 6 years of teaching experience at the end of this
school year.
What is the best way to find a teaching job? I currently
teach in a large urban district that probably has more high
schools than the whole state of Maine. Therefore, I have
never applied for jobs in multiple districts. Based on my
experience job searching in my current district the
official application process is more of a formality that is
followed only once a school has made its hiring decision.
Indeed, it is usually connections and networking that get
you jobs in my current district. Despite the obstacle of
being out-of-state, I am ready and able to fill out the
official applications to districts in southern Maine that
have openings if this is a legitimate means to employment.
However, I am concerned that this may not be the best way
to find a job.
I would appreciate any advice that may help my job search.
For what it's worth, although I have never lived in Maine I
have visited Maine every year of my life except one to
visit a branch of my family that has lived in Maine for
many generations.
Thanks
