Why are you so defensive??? There is plenty of job security in NC. Nobody's losing jobs. Probationary teachers can be let go for any reason but they rarely are-and the rarely is when they're SO bad. We have one tenured teacher at my school who needs to leave teaching but even without a union, the process to fire her is daunting and hasn't happened. It's not especially cheap to live here but not especially expensive either. Our benefits aren't so bad either compared to most places. There are many that would say Michigan's benefits are unrealistic and reflect an economy that's no longer there. I'm not prepared to enter the geographic wars I've seen on this board. I'm just commenting that in my opinion it's the disgruntled who mostly post on this issue. Those of us who are happy campers don't usually come back here.
