I am a teacher at DPS, too. I really like it--hope you do,
too!
1. I think you vest after 10 years. We are part of the
MPERS (Michigan public employees retirement system) and if
you google them, you can find out for sure.
2. Yes, you can buy up to 5 years. Do it early in your
teacher career because they base what you pay on your last
year's salary. They will take out a set amount (usually
$50) per pay period. Once you sign up, you can't change the
amount, ever, so that is why I picked $50 per month.
3. I would GOOGLE the MPERS website and that should be a big
help.
