Re: Hiring

The "For the children" discussion has been had on other teachers.net boards. I am parroting what another poster had said, but I think that's it about making a living first, the "children" second. I mean honestly, if it was "all about the children", I'd be a daycare worker or preschool teacher making $10,000 per year. I left the business world where I made crap, had crappy hours with no vacation and no job security. I got into teaching because I love it, I think I'm good at it and it pays well with great benefits and vacations. Does this make me a bad teacher? I don't believe it does. I give my all to and love the kiddos, but if the pay/benefits/vacations went away, I'd have to rethink it. I hope that charter schools are getting good teachers. Personally, I've never known a teacher who actually wanted to teach there and the ones that do are always waiting for a public school job to open up. Perhaps that is changing in this economy?
