Re: Professional certificate renewal
Posted by HoneyinMich on 5/10/08

This is what I was told by someone at MDE in an email - just FYI
    for people -

"The renewal of an “expired” Professional Education teaching
certificate is the same as a valid Professional Education
certificate, that being the completion of 6 semester hours of
education-related credit or 18 State Board Continuing Education
Units or a combination of the two. Three SB-CEUs equals one
semester hour. The required credit hours or SB-CEUs must be
completed after the issue date on your current Professional
Education certificate and within five years preceding the date of
    application for the renewal.

Here is an example of renewal credit being completed within the
five-year period preceding the date of application: If you
decided that you wanted to go back into the classroom in Fall of
2008. You sent in your renewal application and it was received in
our office May 31, 2008. We would go back five years, which would
be May 31, 2003. The credit you report for renewal would have to
have been completed after May 31, 2003, in order to be used
towards renewal. Any credit completed before that date would not
    be acceptable."
