Yup. I live in Ann Arbor and you should hear what folks say
about me driving to Detroit. Um, it's like 40 minutes. I
know teachers who drive from Ohio to teach at my school. I
know folks who drive to Flint and Lansing to teach. I
student taught w/ someone (math major) who wanted a job he
could walk to. Guess what he's doing? Subbing. I guess he
can walk to the jobs, but....
I grew up with both of my parents driving far to work and it
never occurred to me that it would be any different for me.
Honestly, I'd drive an hour for a public school job.
I hate to urge anyone to move out of MI, but what you said
is true...some dreams won't be realized here :(
