    Oh yeah, one more thing! They said there was no data about a
    teacher shortage. How about data about a surplus? That data
    would be pretty easy to compile. The State issues teaching
    certificates, and could easily compile how many are certified
    based on subject. It would also be relatively easy to estimate
    how many teachers are working in MI, by subject, region, grade
    level, etc. This is public info in Public districts and Charters,
    and could easily be estimated for private schools. You could then
    actually see how many teachers are newly certified in MI each
    year, and estimate approximately how many will be needed each
    year. This is something a Dept. of Ed employee could compile in a
    couple days. Then, they would have the data and not be guessing
    at this "shortage!" This makes me mad, and I have a job, but its
    still ridiculous!
