Post: Public school job in Maryland vs. MI charter school job
Posted by: Options in need of advice on 6/18/09
I have recently graduated from college and in March, I
attended the National Heritage Academy job fair. I had an
opportunity to interview for four of their charter schools
located in and around Detroit. I hadn't heard back from
any of the schools until today.
In the meantime, I have been applying and interviewing for
jobs in Maryland and Northern Virginia. I recently
accepted a job offer in Maryland, which seems absolutely
perfect. I would be living my dream of teaching Drama and
English and I would be assistant directing the plays. The
pay is GREAT, the principal is wonderful, and I am very
excited about the opportunity (I would be living with my
two friends and my bf is willing to relocate as well).
Today, one of the NHA charter schools in Detroit called me
for a second interview. I am not sure if I should take
this opportunity or not. I am not generally hesitant about
moving out of state, but it WOULD be nice to stay close to
my family and friends. Plus, my bf would rather stay in MI
than relocate (I haven't signed a contract in Maryland yet,
so technically I am still available).
HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
Should I go on the second interview?
Has anyone worked for NHA, and what has your experience
been like?
In general, is it better to work in a public school than a
charter school (esp one located in Detroit)?
