First, get a copy of The First Days of School by Harry K.
Wong and Rosemary T. Wong (the ones who sponsor this web page)
and read it. Second, get a copy of the state framework,
study it closely, and follow it religiously. Third, talk to
teachers at the school where you will be teaching and have
them show you the ropes - where the copy machine is, can you
drink coffee/tea while teaching, when you'll have a bathroom
break, who to call when you need a sub, can you wear jeans to
school on certain days, what the school colors are, what's
the school's nickname - you know, all the important stuff!
Welcome to teaching! You are going to be very tired, but you
will feel good about what you're doing most days. I've been
teaching now for 30 years and can't imagine doing anything
else.
