Posted by caution on 10/04/08 I came down here from Pennsylvania in 1997. We called CMS (Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools) and they asked us to come down for an interview. They called us down, because they were ready to set us up with jobs that they had available for us. We (my husband and I) interviewed and were hired the same day. .... Things have changed a lot in NC since 1997. A decade ago or even five years ago, teachers could pick and choose where they wanted to work. Today, the job market is much tighter, especially in the higher paying school districts. I agree, you definitely need to come for in person interviews and don't bother with job fares. Decide where you might want to live and then pick at least three school districts and set up interviews. Talk to teachers without administrators present. If an administrator doesn't want you to talk to the teachers, cross that school of your list.
