Posted by Bill T 6 NC on 10/07/08 that things will not improve much at all until we get the politicians and the selfish business interests OUT of the education business. Until education ceases to be a milking cow for private enterprise and until policians cease to see teacher bashing as a way to get votes, things won't get any better. Education is NOT a for profit business. We should cease to run it like one. Students are people NOT products. Their welfare and well being is more important than test scores, bragging rights and political gain. Finally (and this will get me in trouble), we teachers do not get the support and respect we need and deserve because we don't demand it and because some of our number don't merit it. I've seen too many teachers just going through the motions, putting in their time and waiting on retirement. Yes, some of that is due to all the pressure and demands made on us, but I think we need to remember the main reason we do what we do - our students. Call me a Pollyanna if you like, but if more of us had that outlook, we would get a lot more respect than we do!
