Just to add another bit of information, I was a TA for a daycare
in Durham and for an elementary school in Raleigh (Wake County).
The pay was about the same for both places (it came out to about
$9.00/hr, at the time - this was 2002 through 2004). At the time,
I was told that TA's work 37.5 hours per week because no
overtime is allowed, but we were able to earn "some" comp time -
not sure if that holds true today. I was allowed to make copies
when the class was in specials (i.e., art, music, etc.) and spent
the rest of the day working with the kids. Carpool duty,
lunchroom duty, and serving as an emergency substitute teacher
all came with the job and weren't so bad. I'm a teacher now, but
look back at my TA days very fondly
