In about 2 years, I will have 20 years of service and I will be 54 years old. WIll my pension payments begin right away? Thanks!

A Let's look at real numbers:

You've just reached 20 years? So you're making 46,500 now and were making 43,500 for the past three years, making your average compensation over the last 4 years 44,250 ... and the formula says you'd have $16,107 ... but at 54 with 20 years, you'd be reduced to 55&37; of that, leaving you with a measly pens...See More

Getting Close Thank you for your thoughtful response. I have thought it through and plan to do retire as soon as possible. Life is too short and the stress is too high. I wish you the best of luck!

ELA I am almost positive you have to be 57 and have 20 years
before you can receive reduced benefits upon retirement.
Anyone know for sure?

Early Retirement (Reduced Benefits) You may retire early with a reduced retirement benefit after you: •• reach age 50 and complete 20 years of creditable service •• reach age 60 and complete 5 years of membership service
