Yesterday was my last day as an NC teacher

Yesterday afternoon, I ceased being a North Carolina Public School teacher. I made it into my fifteenth year. I was a science teacher, and National Board Certified- one of those 'hard to find' teachers for 'hard to staff' positions. I started my new career today, working in the private sector. So much less stress, and still a surreal feeling. My salary is over 20K more per year. Benefits are better. And yet... I'm very sad how this all came about. I saw no option, as over the years it became plain to see that being a teacher in NC is no longer a middle class profession- it's now a dead-end job for martyrs. No thank you. Without question, the Republican Party in the NC legislature is ideologically opposed to public education, and harbors a deep-seated animus towards educators in general. ElemenTeacher I'm six years in and this will be my last year. I can't stand how the system is hurting us and the kids. I'm hoping to move back to my home state of Michigan and maybe a different profession all together.

Can't wait to say goodbye to this state!!

It's time to go Your vested after 5 years... Some school districts lie and say 10 but that law never passed. In my 13 years of teaching I have never seen so many teachers leave mid year...

North Carolina sucks
looking for a job now. I was going to wait for a family
issue to clear up and just move to another state and
teach. It has become impossible for me to wait anymore.
