I am looking at retiring soon. I requested an estimate of what my retirement monthly check would look like. Does anyone know if this amount is taxed? Is the amount they quote you what you actually receive or before taxes? Haven't we already pay taxes on our retirement?by
Wake My contributions to the pension are not taxed but will be taxed when I retire. It wasn't always this way depending on when you began teaching. You can google NC teachers retirement handbook and look at pages 26 and 27 for detailed information about state and federal taxes regarding your pension. Good luck!

oldandout I'm in the process now. Yes- it will be taxed. Count on about 25&37; taken out ( fed and state). Be sure you shelter your annual leave pay out in a 457 or 403 account. The state Prudential rep can help you with that. Contacts are on the retirement website. Good luck!
