I am in my second year as a high school social studies teacher in New York City. My wife and I have two young children and are considering relocating our family to North Carolina. I was wondering if anyone could provide some information about teaching in the state. I have done some research and I am concerned about some of the things I've read including low salaries and I'm some cases poor working conditions. We are considering relocating our family in hopes of improving our quality of life not to find ourselves in similar position as we are in here in New York. Can anyone provide some insight into teaching in the state? How is the job market for high school teachers? How are the salaries relative to the cost of living? Is it difficult to obtain a NC teaching certification if I am already certified in another state?

A The legislature has TRIED to do any number of things, and those things are tossed around in the media so that sometimes people believe incorrectly that they actually happened.

I would look at other states first North Carolina has a 70/30 health care plan that is very
expensive for families. I pay over $800.00 a paycheck for
my family. That does not include vision or dental. We also
contribute to our pension. NC is a tuff place to teach
with a family. I work multiple jobs just to make ends
meet. On 5/
