Spanish teacher looking for a primary or secondary school
in Michigan,Detroit.
My name is Laura Gulas and I am a Chilean English teacher
who has recently immigrated to the United States. For
eight years I have worked in a variety of Chilean schools
teaching students of all age levels.
My love for teaching is based upon the different
techniques I employ to reach the curriculm's goals; i.e.
songs, computers, games, and story telling.
As a teacher I understand the importance of learning new
methodologies in order to teach. In 1999, I studied for
one year the techniques involved with teaching special ed
children in a general classroom atmosphere.
In 2007 I went to England as part of a teacher exchange
program to both teach and learn other methodologies for
teaching languages. Additionally, I have participated in
numerous
seminars through both the councils of the United States
and the United Kingdom; in them I have learned strategies
to improve my classroom abilities and to maximize the use
of modern technologies i.e. the interactive board.
Since Chile is a Spanish speaking country far from English
speaking countries, opportunites to learn every day
English are few. Thus, we need to emphasize attractive
accitivites and opportunites for students to learn.
We have organized festivals of English songs in which
students would perform karaoke. Other activities include
opportunites to share both Spanish and English cultures
through online contacts of international schools.
These are opportunities for the students to make friends
from their age groups and tastes while permitting both
schools to have parallel learning opportunites for their
students.
Additionally I have extensive experiences dealing with
students suferring from social risks. In the Chilean
public schools disadvataged students would often need
special psychological approaches
so as to allow them to communicate and maintain good
behaviour in the classroom. This in the context of having
forty-seven students per class while maintaining control
have expanded my abilities.
Please if you know some information about schools, let me
know.
Thanks,
Laura Gulas.
