Post: Principal Release & Transferring. HELP PLEASE!
 John Posted on 11/01/09
I can use some advice here. I am trying to obtain a transfer
to another school due to the unhealthy environment that I
teach in. I am newly tenured and have had enough. I was
offered another job by a principal in another school. When I
applied for the transfer, I was denied the release by my
principal. I teach in a very political city that has its own
teachers union and no where in the handbook does it talk
about open transfers. From what I understand, the principal
releasing me is mandatory. I spoke to a union rep to no
avail. I am being blocked from transferring and it is
effecting me mentally (I battle with depression). It's hard
for me to understand why I cannot transfer to another
school, in the same district. All of my evaluations have
been proficient and I have a clean record. There must be a
loophole here to examine. The principal appears to be
well-connected within the district which makes it even more
difficult. I am at the point where I am very close to
walking away from teaching, despite the bad economy and
having a family to provide for. I just can't take it
anymore. PLEASE HELP!!!
