I find it hard to believe that they won't release you and simply hire someone. Honesty is the way to go, tell the new job and see what they say. The board where you signed could make things very difficult for you in regards to license. Try talking to them again being overly nice but firm. Good luck and post update.
I think the charge is called unprofessional misconduct.
