As important as salary scale is BENEFITS - I was job
searching a couple years ago and was shocked that some of the
lowest salaries also had a very expensive benefits package
too.
CA, where I teach now, does not have salaries comenserate
with cost of living but at least the benefits are
reasonable. One district (in CA) didn't even offer health
insurance because most of their faculty were spouses of
University staff and were covered by the spouse's benefits.
In AZ (Scottsdale to be specific) covered the employee's
health insurance for a reasonable cost but to add family
would be close to $1000 a month! Suggested that my kids
would qualify for "State Childrens' Health Insurance Program"
but not my spouse. Scottsdale is supposedly an upscale
community - wonder if the population knows that teachers are
advised to essentially put their kids on welfare benefits?
