I am seriously considering moving to Las Vegas in order to get a teaching job. Are the teachers treated fair and is the compensation adequate. Also, any ideas on best schools to apply at. Thanks

Illinois was grad school for my ex. (doctorate) and I also picked up my masters degree while there. Then off to three other states before landing in NV.

Yes, if you have your 40 quarters in, you should be able to collect a little (about 1/3) of your SS, in addition to PERS.

Moving... Social Security is reduced for your state pension. Exactly
how much will depend upon how much you've earned through
social security and how much you will receive in pension.
I believe you can buy the years in NV PERS from your years
in Illinois' pension system once you start teaching in NV.

anon You have to have TEN years, 40 quarters, to eligible to
collect Social Security retirement benefits.

However you are subject to major penalties if you worked
in a state like Nevada that doesn't pay into the system. I
already mentioned those penalties.
