Posted by Unemployed teacher on 8/15/08 I am certified 1-8, intervention specialist and reading specialist. I'm a single mom and getting close to being 50 years old. I worked in a district for 5 years and was non-renewed in my 5th year (after 4 years of excellent evaluations) due to a principal who didn't like my brother in high school. (Don't laugh!) It wasn't a unanimous board decision but I didn't fight. I was immediately picked up as a building sub in another district that went out of their way to keep me on staff full-time for 3 years. When it was time to permanently hire they hired a boy right out of college (they wanted a guy) and a friend of the superintendent. Everyone thought I had a job and in mid-June I found out that I didn't. I can't even get an interview anywhere. I think my resume looks like maybe I'm a child molester or have some other problem. I do have references though. Now I'm not even getting child support and I'm about to be homeless. I can't get hired anywhere because I have too much education. (I had the wierdest experience at Red Lobster...) I'm a BG and Ashland alum and I've been trying to use both of these resources. Does anyone have any idea what else I can do for a living? Relocating isn't an option at the present but I'm willing to drive. I live in north central Ohio. Thanks.
